Backwater Expeditions was founded in 2000 with a simple idea: the water moves slower back here, and people should too.

What started as a few boats and a quiet stretch of blackwater has grown into something much more — not a tour company in the traditional sense, but a place where people come to experience a part of Georgia that hasn’t changed much in a very long time.

Our trips take place on Ebenezer Creek and surrounding Low Country waterways, where cypress trees grow out of dark water, wildlife still moves at its own pace, and the noise of the world fades out not long after you leave the landing.

Some people come for the wildlife. Some come for the history. Some come to take pictures. Some just come for the quiet. We’ve had families, photographers, bird watchers, historians, first-time paddlers, and people who just needed a few hours to breathe and reset.

We don’t rush trips. We don’t run large groups. Most of our trips are small and many are private, because this place is better experienced when it’s quiet and personal.

Backwater Expeditions is an outfitter and guide service, but more than that, we try to help people understand what they are looking at — the trees, the water, the history, and the wildlife — and why this place matters.

This isn’t a theme park ride. It’s a real place, and every trip is a little different.
